For first time applicants with military service that have not qualified on small arms training in the previous 60 months, Louisiana allows you to apply after taking a shorter course. LA requires 4 hours of training for personnel released or retired from active duty or the National Guard or reserve components of the Armed Forces, who are also in possession of proof indicating combat service and an “Honorable Discharge” or “General Discharge Under Honorable Conditions” as evidenced by a Department of Defense Form 214 (DD-214).
This training must cover at least three hours of instruction on the use of deadly force and conflict resolution, which shall include a review of R.S. 14:18 through 22, and one hour of instruction on child access prevention (L.A. R.S. 40:1379.3, D. (1)). Our online CHP Certification course exceeds these requirements for first-time applicants, but everyone must take the full course when renewing.
Our online course allows you to view the material on your own time, and most importantly, at your own pace. All lessons and quizzes can be completed at the same time, or in smaller blocks if preferred. This can allow for a higher retention of the information. After completing the course, you will also have access to the material for up to 2 years so that you can go back and view the material again.
The course is limited to a single person per email address. The course includes a certification, therefore each person must complete the course as an individual for time tracking and certificate purposes.
If you would prefer a traditional in-person course, then we have available options on the website at https://bearcotraining.com/events/.

While I had previously taken concealed carry courses in other states I’ve lived in, this course from Bearco still brought some new information to my attention. First was the need for a trigger guard when staging my handgun for home defense. The next was making sure I had all the right components in my medical kit and to have a complete second kit in my home – not just in my vehicle. The section on legal protection prompted me to revisit my own protection plan and make sure I understood what coverage I had. The final and most important takeaway for me was the idea that avoidance or giving up property is often, but not always, the safest option.
I docked a star in the rating due to difficulty in navigation from one section to another. Thus, taking longer to complete them.
good class, everything well explained
The course material was excellent and informative. I did have some difficulty, at least initially, navigating between the lessons until I became accustomed to the way that it was formatted. All in all I was satisfied with the program.
Good overall presentations. The ability to review is good. Good links for additional training and information. Took a while to figure out how to navigate the training presentations. I had planned on doing it on my laptop (MacBook Pro) in Google Chrome but the display did not show the progress of the video so I switched to Safari. Same problem. Reset/restart computer, cleared history/cache. Turned out to be easier on my iPhone. Still don’t know if it’s the program, my computer or what but I finished it on my iPhone.
